Seller offering a 1953 Mercury Monterey 2-door coupe with 49,502 miles for $21,500. Seller says this example is equipped with power steering and power brakes – a rare option with only 8% of 1953’s having both. Originally from Oklahoma, this car has no rust, very nice paint (Asheville Green), pristine interior, and known history since 1959. Other optional equipment includes 3-speed Merc-O-Matic automatic transmission, clock, radio, courtesy/map light, and owner’s manual.
The Monterey was introduced in 1952 and was built on a longer wheelbase and had a longer body than the Ford LTD, Galaxie, or Custom. Drawing cues from the space age, the heater and vent controls are levers and placed on a plate set perpendicular to the dash behind the steering wheel like controls in a large aircraft. Seller points out that power brakes were first offered in April 1953 (only 15% of Mercurys were equipped with them) and in May 2953 power steering was introduced and as a result only 8% of 1953 Mercury Montereys were equipped with both options. This 1953 Mercury is for sale in Olathe, Kansas. Check out Seller’s listing on Craigslist for more details and contact information.
