Seller offering a 1979 Mercedes Benz 450SL with 57,000 original miles for $17,750. Seller is the 3rd owner and has all of the ownership history going back to the original sale at Aristocrat (then in KCMO) in October 1978. Owner has had this vehicle since 1996 when it had 19,081 miles. Grey-Blue metallic paint, blue leather interior, and factory hard top all in great condition. We like that it’s all blue – exterior, upholstery, and carpets. Seller discloses that A/C compressor may need to be repaired and AM/FM radio is currently not working.
The R107 series Mercedes was produced from 1972-1989, the 2nd longest production run behind the G-wagon. The 450SL began production in 1974 and included the 4.5L V8 engine and 3-speed transmission might not accelerate at a head jerk pace but it was built for autobahn cruising. Originally sold for around $32,000 in 1979 (i.e. approx. $110,00 in today’s $), the 450SL was made when Mercedes was synonymous with quality and largely alone in its space. Probably my biggest complaint about the R107 are the elongated front and rear bumpers meant to comply with US safety standards. Hard top weighs 90 lbs and rests on an MB aluminum rack that can easily be taken down and stored in the trunk. This 1979 Mercedes Benz 450SL is for sale in Overland Park, Kansas.
