Seller offering a 1981 Volkswagen Rabbit pickup with a reported 71,000 miles for $6,000. Equipped with a 1.6-liter diesel and 5-speed manual transmission seller says this truck has been well taken care of. Released by VW in 1978, the VW Rabbit came with two engine options – a 1.6-liter diesel and 1.7-liter gasoline version. The diesel was paired with a 5-speed manual transmission where the 5th gear was labled as “E” for “Economy”. Seller reports fuel economy of 36 mpg+ in city and 40mpg+ on the highway.
The Rabbit was efficient but it was quick. It’s 48-hp was reported to be a liability at highway speeds. During the oil crisis though – getting from point A to B meant more than how quickly. This vehicle has been lowered on the coilover in the front and the rear axle has been flipped. Exterior looks clean – may have undergone a repaint. Interior appears to be complete with some wear and at least one tear on the seats.
The Volkswagen Rabbit was replaced with the “Caddy” nameplate in 1982 which continues to this day. This 1981 Volkswagen Rabbit pickup is for sale in Merriam, Kansas. Check out seller’s listing on Facebook Marketplace for full details and contact information.
