2007 was the first year of the E63, the successor to the E55. The E55 was rated at 469 hp but the reality was different – it was much closer to 500 hp. Why would Mercedes not report the actual numbers? They needed a marketing strategy to differentiate the larger and more expensive S55 AMG. The E63 shared the same supercharged 5.4L V8, more horsepower but less torque. The car was capable of 0-60 in 4.1 seconds. The E63 also had the AMG-tuned Airmatic suspension and with the stability control turned off, gave it a far better experience than the non-AMG E55.
