Seller offering a 1968 Datsun 1600 Roadster (“Fairlady”) with undisclosed miles for $2,500. Not currently running and in need of a new interior, seller says the vehicle includes a new top, spare parts, and a clean title. We like unique roadsters and some of the early Japanese models – rare in the Kansas City area – have some very attractive styling. The 1600 Roadster is powered by a 1595cc R16 inline-four that produced 96hp when new and a 4-speed manual transmission that could reach a top speed of 105 mph. A larger 2000 was made in limited numbers and was produced some legitimate performance figures.
When new, the Nissan 1600 had some aggressive styling. Probably the most distinctive feature were the six chrome rear lights extending from either side. Similar to the MGB, the 1600 is uniquely Japanese. Concours ready examples are over $45k. Fair condition examples that are driveable command less than $10,000. Parts are not as widely available as its European counterparts – something to consider when approaching a restoration.
